On Saturday November 4, Dr Laura Cahillane was invited as a guest lecturer to King's Inn, Dr Cahillane's lecture was related to the topic of democratic principles and the Constitution. The class was held as part of the Electoral Law and Politics course at King’s Inn.

Dr Cahillane was also present at Trinity College's TriCON (The Trinity Centre for Constitutional Law and Governance) on the evening before the Supreme Court began its hearing of the Article 26 reference case to consider the constitutionality of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) Bill. Dr Laura Cahillane presented a paper on the issues of diversity and merit in the bill and concluded that while improvements could have been made that these issues will likely not be found to be unconstitutional.

Dr Cahillane work in the field has been recoginised in our national media this week as she  appeared on Newstalk Breakfast to discuss some of the issues likely to arise in the JAC Supreme Court case. Dr Cahillane’s research on judicial appointments and the issues of diversity and merit were quoted in an article by Mary Carolan in the Irish Times yesterday and also by an article on rte.ie by Orla O’Donnell.
