Monday, 17 June 2024

Over the last number of years, the Greentown programme of research has been leading the development of network science to examine young people’s recruitment and retention in criminal networks in Ireland. In 2020 the programme received the European Crime Prevention Award for its novel approach to evidence-informed design. In this panel we chart the development of the programme from its initial PhD research to the development of an evidence informed programme being trialled in two anonymised locations. We provide a special focus on community efficacy in Greentown and the programme’s continuing development and challenges for the future.

“Background to the Greentown Programme – why understanding networks is critical ” (Professor Sean Redmond, Greentown PI);
“Overview of programme development on the ground” (Dr Jane Mulcahy, Research Fellow on the Greentown Programme);
“Community Efficacy in one trial site” (Dr Eoin O’Meara Daly, Research Fellow, YDP Research and Development Team)
“Next Steps for the Greentown Programme” (Dr Catherine Naughton, Research Fellow on the Greentown Programme).
