A week-long series of special events to mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) (Thursday 16 May) kicks off in UL today with a  by two experts in the field.

James Cawley from the Irish Centre for Diversity will speak on the real life impact of accessibility and Dr Ann Gagne Senior Educational Developer, Accessibility and Inclusion Centre for Pedagogical Innovation, Brock University, Ontario, Canada will speak on Holistic Approaches to Accessible Pedagogy.

The UL Yoga Society is also holding a Chair Yoga session this morning – the perfect opportunity to de-stress from exams. This session will be available both in-person and online.

Later this afternoon Becca Laffan, Content Creator with the UL Web Team will deliver an insight into the work that the team is doing on web accessibility. This includes advocating for digital accessibility, training, how the team uses Silktide to monitor content on , the UL style guide, and the role digital accessibility plays in the redesign of the UL website.

There are more events planned for the week ahead including a Dine in the Dark event and a student panel on real-life experience of accessibility and inclusion at UL.

Accessibility is everyone's responsibility, and it requires a university-wide collaborative approach to successfully deliver a truly inclusive university for staff and students.
