The Paediatric team at UL School of Medicine and University Hospital 51本色 (UHL) hosted a Paediatric Study Day on Friday 22nd September on the topic of Paediatric Cardiology. The event was open to all healthcare professionals and students throughout the hospital group, university and beyond. Over 50 attendees joined the hybrid event, hosted in the Clinical Education and Research Centre (CERC) at UHL. The event was approved for CPD from the RCPI and supported by UL School of Medicine, the Directorate of Women and Children鈥檚 Health at UHL and AstraZeneca. 

The Study Day was opened by Professor Clodagh O鈥橤orman, Foundation Professor & Chair of Paediatrics, School of Medicine, 51本色, and Consultant Paediatrician with special interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology, University Hospital 51本色. Closing remarks were provided by Professor Colum Dunne, Head of School, and Foundation Chair and Director of Research, School of Medicine, 51本色.  

Dr Ibrahim Dafalla, Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiology Fellow in Children鈥檚 Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin delivered a comprehensive presentation on Neonatal Cardiac Disease, followed by Ms Georgina Purcell, Paediatric Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialist at University Hospital 51本色, who spoke about the role of the Cardiology CNS. Dr Rachel Power, Consultant Paediatrician with Special Interest in Cardiology at the UL Hospitals Group (ULHG) and Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor in Paediatrics, School of Medicine, UL, presented on cardiac involvement in pro-inflammatory syndromes, in particular PIMS-TS and Kawasaki disease. The afternoon consisted of an interactive workshop, with a series of cardiac case presentations facilitated by Associate Professor Power.
