Supporting your Curiosity
UL supports students to succeed. Whether you're a graduate student returning to study after a bachelor's degree, a part-time student embarking on a college course to boost your skills, or an international student coming to Ireland for the first time, you'll find the service you need, when you need it most.
First 7 Weeks
Unique in Ireland, UL's First 7 Weeks programme is a 'find your feet' initiative that will support and guide you during the early weeks of your time here. As well as helping you find your feet, a range of services to support your academic and personal development are also in place.
Academic Supports
Science Learning Centre – The Science Learning Centre supports students through support tutorials, drop-in service and 1-1 appointments. Students may receive help with lecture materials, concepts and to refresh their scientific knowledge. A range of learning resources are also available.
In addition to core services, the SLC can also provide support to students who may have additional support requirements due to various learning differences or difficulties.
Regional Writing Centre - The Writing Centre at UL offers a free and friendly place for all students to come and address any aspect of their writing. This resource is dedicated to helping students develop strategies to become more confident, critical and autonomous writers.
The Writing Centre practices a non-invasive, inductive approach to writing development, utilising peer-tutors and experts that work with both undergraduate students, postgraduate students and staff respectively to identify their writing practices in order to assess and improve strategic effectiveness.
ICT Learning Centre - The ICT Learning Centre aims to support and promote active learning among the students of ICT-related programmes in UL, via the use of proven learner support approaches, tutoring innovation, research and evaluation, with the goal of developing learners who are confident and effective ICT practitioners. Some ICTLC supports are available online, in-person evening classes are also available through the semester. Some module-specific online supports may also be available through a Digital Learning Support Hub (DLSH).
Maths Learning Centre - The purpose of the Mathematics Learning Centre is to support students' mathematics learning across all courses in UL by:
- Providing a dedicated area with supervised access to help and resources
- Delivering appropriate support services for students on service mathematics courses
- Addressing the mathematics needs of special groups e.g. mature students, adult returners, transfer students, international students
