Brief Description
The LLB (Graduate Entry) is a two-year, full-time programme (level 8, NQAI) that provides a legal education for graduates in disciplines other than law. The programme is ideally suited to graduates who wish to supplement their primary studies with a legal education or to graduates who are seeking a career change. The programme is also available to graduates who have studied law in a country where the legal system is not a common law system, i.e. the dominant system in countries including Ireland, England and Wales, Australia, and the United States of America.
It may be possible to gain exemptions for Year 1 of the programme if the core law modules covered in Year 1 have been covered in the applicant’s primary degree. This would result in the applicant being accepted into Year 2 of the programme. Decisions are based on a case-by-case basis by the Course Director.

The LLB (Graduate Entry) programme is a two year full-time programme specifically designed to provide a legal education to graduates in disciplines other than law. Graduates from any discipline other than law may apply and no prior legal knowledge is necessary. Entry is competitive, and the minimum entry requirement is a 2nd class honours grade 2 Level 8 undergraduate degree.
All law subjects required by the Irish professional bodies, the Law Society and the Kings Inns, are covered in full over the course of this programme.
On successful completion of the programme, candidates are awarded an LLB degree. It may be possible to gain exemptions for Year 1 of the programme if the core law modules covered in Year 1 have been covered in the applicant’s primary degree. This would result in the applicant being accepted into Year 2 of the programme. Decisions are based on a case-by-case basis by the Course Director.
In each semester students take five modules; each module is taught through lectures (two per module per week), and generally a tutorial for each module is held every fortnight. Graduate Entry students attend lectures with the undergraduate law students. Five core modules are taken in the first semester of year 1; three core modules are taken in the second semester, together with two electives. In the second year, students choose five elective modules in each semester.

Graduate Testimonials
Gillian Bourke, Associate, Latham & Watkins LLP "I graduated from the 51±¾É« with a Bachelor of Laws in 2008 and went on to pursue a Master of Laws (Commercial) at the University College Dublin in 2009. I trained in Arthur Cox, Dublin and upon my qualification in 2013, joined the firm’s Corporate Group. After working in Arthur Cox for a further three years, I moved to the London office of Latham & Watkins where I am currently a corporate associate with a practice focused on mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and general corporate matters.
Studying law at the 51±¾É« prepares one well for a variety of marketplace careers, as students are offered the opportunity to obtain invaluable exposure to the skills, knowledge, and support of some of the top legal academics in the country. From a personal perspective, the programme offered me exposure to an extensive amount of legal theory; an experience which equipped me with a solid understanding of, and ever-developing interest in, law. It also equipped me with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations, methodologies, and subject matters, as well as perform effectively under pressure. To this day, the skills that I acquired during my degree help me to provide clients with creative legal solutions to complex challenges."
