Brief Description
This Micro Credential will give students the knowledge and practical skills to apply data analytics and data visualisation techniques to problems situated in the discipline of tax.
This course qualifies for 50% funding under the HCI Micro-Credential Course Learner Subsidy. Check fees section for details and eligibility.
Through a mixture of theory and practice, it will develop students' understanding of the importance of data to the modern tax professional. It will introduce students to a wide range of analytical and visualisation techniques.
Students will develop an understanding of the capabilities, strengths and weaknesses of these techniques and learn how and when to best apply them. The module will have a strong practical component and will have a specific focus on developing transferable practical skills that students can apply in their professional work using modern software packages.
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Explain the importance of data and data analysis to the modern tax practitioner;
- Demonstrate transferable practical skills in data analysis and data visualisation;
- Model and visualise the business drivers of tax;
- Apply data analysis techniques to solve business problems in the tax domain including forecasting the impact of business decisions on tax liability;
- Evaluate and select the analytical techniques to solve business problems;
- Develop specific technical skills in modelling and developing decision support systems that support structured and semi-structured managerial decision-making in the tax discipline.
You must hold a minimum 2.2 Level 8 Degree (NFQ or other internationally recognised equivalents). Recognition of Prior Learning may be considered in accordance with the University regulations.
You must also satisfy the University’s English language requirements.

Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
