Catherine Profutkina graduated from the Bachelor of Science in Technology Management programme at 51本色 in 2023. Now working as a Graduate Quality Engineer at Cook Medical in 51本色, we caught up with her to ask about her time in UL and for any advice he might have for students considering their career pathway after the Leaving Certificate.
Why did you choose to study the BSc in Technology Management?
I was drawn to Technology Management at UL for its unique combination of business and engineering. I had a passion for both fields and wanted to explore how they intersected in the industry.
What did you enjoy about UL during your time here?
I chose UL as I fell in love with the campus when visiting it on open day. The quality of the facilities offered, and the vibrant student culture really impressed me. Moreover, the cooperative education opportunities were a massive reason why I chose UL as I believed this experience would be such an advantage when looking for employment after graduation.
Student life is fantastic at UL, there are many opportunities to make friends within the course as well as in the clubs and societies. The campus facilities such as the library and sports arena have everything you need!
What did you enjoy most about the course?
I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying Technology Management at UL. The course has given me many valuable experiences and opportunities. The faculty's industry experience and the course's practical focus allowed me to apply what I learned immediately. We engaged in hands-on projects, case studies, and simulations that mirrored real-world scenarios, preparing me to face everyday challenges in my career.
I found several modules particularly interesting throughout my studies. I enjoyed Plant Automation the most as it was very hands-on and gave me a greater understanding of the process of automating industrial processes.
Where did you go on your Co-Operative Education Placement?
During my 3rd year I had the opportunity to gain practical experience through a placement at Cook Medical. Cook Medical is a multinational company that specialises in the development, manufacturing and distribution of medical devices.
What advice would you give to people completing their leaving certificate this year?
I would advise school leavers to do as much research as possible into the variety of different courses that exist today. I believe that there is a course out there for everyone and if students choose a course based on what truly interests them, they will have a fantastic experience at university.
