This research cluster provides a point of collaboration for those engaged in the critical analysis of discursive constructions of social groups, issues, practices and problems, with a particular mind to their role in the exercise of power, including the consolidation or challenging of existing power relations.

The cluster is inclusive of research on such wide ranging topics as migration, integration and multiculturalism, including linguistic diversity; racialization and racism; class formation, discrimination, prejudice, and struggle; the social construction of gender, sexism, heterosexism and homophobia, inter alia.

The cluster is envisaged as an interdisciplinary endeavour, providing a platform for researchers working within sociology, sociolinguistics, political science, education, ethnomusicology and social geography to come together to advance their shared interest in the critical analysis of public discourses and the elucidation of their social meaning, significance and material impacts.
