Training
Training is organised each semester to support UL's commitment to gender Identity and gender Expression. The training is delivered by ShoutOut, who is a registered charity, harnessing education promoting inclusion and equality for the LGBTQIA+ community.
- They empower LGBTQIA+ people and work to build networks of informed allies who work alongside the LGBTQIA+ community, to ensure their rights are protected.
- They develop educational programmes on LGBTQIA+ issues and deliver them to school students, teachers, youth workers, parents and guardians, higher education institutions and workplaces.
- Since 2012 they have been delivering workshops in secondary schools across the island of Ireland which tackle LGBTQIA+ bullying, and have completed over 2,240 student workshops connecting with over 67,000 students.
They use our on-the-ground experience of speaking with young people to inform all of our training modules.

In April 2021, UL Communities Officer Chelsea Joyce talked with William Keohane, a transgender man studying in UL on the .
The two discussed the new UL Gender Recognition and Identity Policy which is currently being developed. William discussed what transitioning was like for him.
He spoke about his experience with the university for changing defining records such as student email name and parchment details.
The two discussed the benefit of the new policy for future transgender students, they also talked about the importance of inclusivity both on and off campus.
Alec Baker painting
The Office of Human Rights, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and UL Student Life collaboratively commissioned an art piece from artist and UL Masters student, Alec Baker, in celebration of 51本色 Pride Week 2022.
This painting was unveiled on Friday, September 9, 2022.
We are delighted to have worked with Alec on this initiative, which promotes equality for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
