Guidance for Students

All important information about your programme can be found in the psychology student handbook – Psychology Student Handbook, which can be found on the left of this page. In addition, for each module that you take as part of your programme, there will be a module handbook; this will be provided to you in Week 1. It is important to read these handbooks as they will explain the module, its learning outcomes, assessments and the feedback you can expect to receive.

All teaching and learning materials will be made available to you via , the University virtual learning environment, so please make sure that you can log on to this site.

While queries about individual modules should be directed towards the Module Leader, Course Directors will be able to answer any queries about the programme as a whole. The Course Director for each programme is as follows:

BA (Hons) Psychology and Sociology â€“ Dr Paul Maher

MSc Psychological Sciences – Dr Jenny Roth

MA Psychology – Dr Cillian McHugh

Diploma in Psychology - Prof Stephen Gallagher

Late Submissions or Missed Teaching Sessions

If you do not submit your course work on time or miss mandatory teaching sessions, a penalty may be applied to your grade. This is explained in the Psychology Student Handbook. However, if you have a good reason (such as illness) for missing a session or a late submission, you should submit an ‘M-form’ along with evidence of your extenuating circumstances. The M-Form can be completed  (deadline for M-form submission is Friday of Week 14 at 5pm). To add a new M Form, click on the blue + on the page and it will bring you to a form to fill out.

Script Viewing Days

Following exam grades being issued, students can request to view their exam script. Some students find it helpful to review their answers to exam questions outside the exam room. Students should be aware, however, that markers do not write student feedback on exam scripts. A grade is written on the front page of each exam booklet, and the marker may write brief examiners' notes in the margins of the script.

Script viewing dates will be updated on the UL Academic Calendar; please fill out the form here in advance of these dates and return it to the Departmental office, E1-026 or email psychology@ul.ie.
