As a recognized trade union UNITE "the union" has sole negotiating rights in The 51±¾É«. UNITE is able to represent members on a wide variety of issues which affect your employment at UL . These include: individual grievances; disciplinary hearings and appeals; job security, policies and procedures; health and safety; equal opportunities and staff development and training.
It is the national policy of UNITE to ensure that wherever possible staff are employed on continuous contracts. If you are on a short - term contract help us to help you by joining UNITE.

UNITE has a first class record in pursuing Health & Safety at work issues. In addition to experienced local representatives we have a National Health and Safety Officer and a national network of experts on the multitude of health and safety problems connected with your work in Universities.
Nationally UNITE has a Pensions Officer who advises on all aspects of pension provision. Locally the Branch was instrumental in ensuring employee representation on the University Pension Plan.
Unite is in partnership with a range of affiliated providers offering discounts with financial, health and insurance partners. Our partners also offer a free debt management service that provides free, ethical and immediate debt help for individuals in the workplace - a tax refund service which has received over £8 million in tax refunds for Unite members. The Unite the union Benevolent Fund is the benevolent fund for Unite the union members and employees and their immediate dependents. It is a one-off grant from Unite's benevolent fund which is there to support members during times of financial hardship.
To apply
If you wish to apply for assistance from the Unite the union Benevolent Fund either complete the form online and then copy and paste it into an email or download the form, fill it in and forward it to the address on the form.
The application form will ask you to give full details of your income, savings, capital, debts and housing expenditure, as well as information about your circumstances and Unite the Union membership or employment. Please make sure that you complete all sections of the form and supply the requested supporting documentation.
Once your application has been received it will be reviewed by our staff, who may need to contact you for further information or clarification, before it is submitted to the Trustees for consideration.
The Trustees meet bi-monthly to carefully consider each new case on its merits. We take into account both our available budget and our framework of guidelines which are designed to ensure consistency in the help we provide.
