Congratulations to second year Law and Accounting student, John Healy, who has been awarded an Iveagh Fellowship by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in partnership with Saothar The Fellowship helps Irish students identify and participate in high-quality internships in international policy organisations that could relate to international development, human rights, and humanitarian work. The scholarship will allow fellows the opportunity to undertake these internships with a view to further their future careers in the area.John has already undertaken volunteering work in Kenya, and works in the new UL startup 鈥淩estart鈥,  helping to integrate asylum seekers in the Hanratty and Knockalisheen direct provision centres.Five Fellowships were made available nationally in 2019 with each participating third level institution requested to submit two nominees for consideration. John was mentored in his application by Jennifer Schweppe. He will now get mentorship support to help secure an internship at an internationally-recognised organisation. Once an appropriate internship is successfully secured, he will receive an award of 鈧5000 and be part of a prestigious and exciting new national Fellowship Programme.
