Research in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is dynamic, exciting, and cutting edge. Our faculty and students are research leaders in diverse areas, from early modern studies, Irish literature, and hate crime legislation to Gregorian chant, digital learning, and Seanad reform. Award-winning writers and engaged researchers, the AHSS community boasts ambitious research aims as well as the expertise, skills, and global networks to achieve them. They鈥檙e supported in their efforts by excellent research infrastructure in the Faculty and the wider university; and they both benefit from and contribute to the university鈥檚 lively research culture.
As well as excellent researchers, AHSS members are also excellent teachers, routinely winning prizes for the educational experiences they provide and fostering pedagogical innovation through both taught and research postgraduate degrees. These include traditional research MA and PhD programmes as well as state-of-the-art structured PhD programmes and taught MA programmes in topics ranging from the history of the family, creative writing, and European studies, to Irish, community research and journalism, and ethnomusicology.
In this section of the Faculty website, you鈥檒l find information about our vibrant research community and its activities. There are AHSS news updates and details about our many active research clusters and centres, which organise a very full calendar of events each semester. For current MA and PhD students, there are updates about our schedule of PhD workshops and coffee mornings, and important information about ethics applications and the annual AHSS postgraduate research conference. Prospective students will find a useful breakdown of the PhD application process plus useful links to current researcher profiles, FAQs, and fee waiver and scholarship details.
As Assistant Dean, Research, my role is to support, encourage, and amplify research within the Faculty, and I鈥檓 delighted to introduce you, if only briefly, to the AHSS research here. If you have any questions about engaging with or undertaking research in the Faculty, please don鈥檛 hesitate to contact me.
