What did you learn on the course?

There is two different aspects on the course. There is criminal justice and then human rights. I learned about what is right and what is wrong in the criminal justice system as it pertains the human rights. It’s really interesting.

What is unique about the programme?

This programme wasn’t offered in a lot of Universities that I looked at. The fact that this course is being offered at all is very unique along with the perspective it’s coming from. We got the opportunity to have guest lecturers and people with experience in this area coming to talk to us and give us first hand accounts of human rights violations and criminal rights violations. It’s really interesting the way it’s taught. It’s immersive, you get all you can possibly get from the course, content wise.

Can you take us through a typical week on the MA programme?

We had classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. We had Wednesdays and Thursdays completely free. Each lecture was two hours. We had our assignments at the beginning of the semester, so we had a lot of time to prepare for them. It’s the same thing this semester, I have classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and I have the rest of the week free. I already have assignments so we really do get enough time to start working on them.

Would you recommend the MA to others?

Yes, especially if it’s human rights and criminal justice you want to concentrate on, it’s really good. The modules that are offered are excellent. We study human rights in relation to the police, victims and offenders. It’s very broad. If you want to study human rights or even law in general, it’s good knowledge to have. I would highly recommend the course.

What do you plan to do/have done post-graduation?

Hopefully I will start working. I want to work in the UN, but before I do that I need to have some legal work experience, just as a stepping stone. Maybe in five years’ time after working in a law firm, I will go to work in the UN. That’s my plan.
