Aengus 脫 Fionnag谩in, delivered a lecture on language shift in Ireland, the Ordnance Survey (1824-42), the anglicisation of Irish placenames, and collecting and interpreting field names, to a group of 100 Transition Year students from Moate Community School on the 30 April.
This was followed by a lively Q & A on the meaning and origins of the names of the students' home places.
