The 51±¾É« is the first (and only) university in Ireland to become a corporate member of the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC). With this partnership, the Japanese Section at the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics (MLAL) hopes to:

• Provide more opportunities for co-op work placements with Japanese and Japan-related companies, both in Ireland and Japan

• Widen students’ networks in their job-hunting activities

• Partner students with chamber members through a mentorship scheme.

This partnership has been possible thanks to Assististant Professor Erika Marcet (Head of Japanese Section), Professor Liam Murray (Head of MLAL) and Ms Olga O’Sullivan (UL Global). Thanks to Mr Dominic Keogh and UL alumnus Sam Keane (IJCC) for their involvement in this partnership.

The Japanese Section at the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics provides undergraduate language and culture classes to a wide variety of students majoring in Japanese. These include the Bachelor of Education in Languages, BA Applied Languages, Bachelor of Business Studies, BA International Business, Bachelor of Law Plus and BA Journalism and Digital Communication. Japanese is also offered in the Professional Masters of Education, as well as part of a broadening introductory module to undergraduate students outside the above-mentioned courses.
