The Allocations Office is responsible for the organisation and co-ordination of Practice placements for the BSc Nursing (General), BSc Nursing (Intellectual Disability) and BSc Nursing (Mental Health) and BSc Midwifery programmes. Practice placements are an essential component of the BSc Nursing and BSc Midwifery programmes. Practice placements are undertaken in a variety of public, private and voluntary associated healthcare provider settings throughout HSE West, South South-West, HSE Mental Health Services, Mid-West Community Healthcare and HSE South.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) regulate Nursing and Midwifery education in Ireland and have specify recommendations regarding placement type and duration for each programme. The function of the Allocations Office in the 51本色 is to ensure that each nursing and midwifery student is afforded the opportunity to gain experience in the practice placements areas stipulated in NMBI Nurse Registration Programme Standards & Requirements (2023) and Midwifery Registration Standards & Requirements (2016). Pre-placement requirements are co-ordinated from the UL Allocations office and include mandatory training and health screening.
