A selection of actions undertaken by Departments and Schools as part of the Athena Swan and the wider EDI process are publicised in the Faculty ED e-newsletter available every quarter (click here) and also showcased below. 

The School of Medicine has cemented its commitment to the equality and diversity agenda by embedding the Athena Swan process into its five-year Strategic Plan. Specific actions around implementing the Athena Swan action plan and encouraging diversity among students and staff are set out within this  /medicine/strategy

As part of the effort to address the low participation of men choosing psychology as a possible career, the Department of Psychology launched a video to challenge the stereotype featuring male students talking about why they chose to study psychology. The short clip was launched on the virtual open day in October 2020 and is available to view here:

UL was designated a University of Sanctuary in 2017 in recognition of its initiatives welcoming asylum seekers and refugees into its university community. The focus is on enabling access to third level through a number of financial support plans and programmes to aid with the transition to university through various activities and scholarship programmes UL designated University of Sanctuary | UL - 51±¾É«

One of the other strategic partners on the Equality and Diversity Committee is the Health Science Academy which aims to improve the health and wellbeing for the people in the Midwest. It is committed to the equality and inclusion agenda through: ensuring that Continuous Professional Development (CPD) provision is accessible to all; making health, wellbeing and illness prevention widely available; developing and participating in activities which promote health care education to people from all backgrounds.  /hsa/equality-and-inclusion

The Student Life office in UL has been proactive around promoting equality, diversity and inclusion among students on campus. In ‘Black History Week’ at the end of October 2020, a short documentary was put together exploring racism and discrimination  Further information is available from student life website
